Saga Environmental and Engineering, Inc. Awarded U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge Small Arms Firing Range

In August 2015, Saga Environmental and Engineering, Inc. (Saga) was awarded the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service project for environmental site characterization at the former small arms firing range within the Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge in Mound City, Missouri. The firing range was utilized approximately three to five times per year by U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service personnel for target practice. The project is intended to satisfy the Missouri Department of Natural Resources’ requirements for site investigation in accordance with the MoDNR Brownfields Voluntary Cleanup Program.

In August 2015, Saga Environmental and Engineering, Inc. (Saga) was nominated for a Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC)'s Marketplace 2015 Outstanding Small Business Award. The Outstanding Small Business Award recognizes Wisconsin-based and State Certified Business Enterprises with fewer than 25 employees that have demonstrated the capacity to grow with plans to continue expanding in the future. Saga Environmental and Engineering, Inc. Welcomes Sarah Ganswindt

As of May 11, 2015, Saga Environmental and Engineering, Inc. is proud to welcome Sarah Ganswindt to our Lake Mills, Wisconsin office.

Ms. Ganswindt joins Saga as an accomplished Environmental Technician, with environmental consulting experience since the mid-1990s. Her professional background includes soil, groundwater, surface water and sediment sampling; bathymetric surveying and groundwater monitoring well installation. Additional experience for Ms. Gaswindt includes Phase I and Phase II ESAs, demolition and construction oversight, construction as-built preparation, demolition lead and asbestos abatement oversight, asbestos inspections, underground storage tank site assessments and project coordination, and field sampling.

Paragon-Saga Environmental JV, LLC Has Wastewater Treatment Systems Permit Compliance Services MoDOT Project Extended

Paragon-Saga Environmental JV, LLC was originally awarded the MoDOT Wastewater Treatment Systems Permit Compliance Services in fall of 2014. As of February 2015, the project was extended another year. The project assists Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) facilities through the state with environmental wastewater compliance with their general Missouri Department of Natural Resources permits. 

Paragon Business Solutions, Inc. (Paragon) and Saga Environmental and Engineering, Inc. (Saga) formed a joint venture LLC in 2014 in order to win Government Contracts by combining their unique capabilities into one entity: Paragon-Saga Environmental JV, LLC (Paragon-Saga JV). Both Paragon and Saga are 100% owned and managed by women. For this reason, the Paragon-Saga JV is owned 50% by Paragon and 50% by Saga. Both companies are C-corporations, and self-certified in the Small Business Administration's 8(m) Woman Owned Small Business Program as Economically Disadvantaged Woman Owned Small Businesses (EDWOSB). The unique capabilities and experiences of Paragon and Saga are described in the following sections.

Paragon, located in Rolla, Missouri, was established in 1997 by Alice B. Reeves, PhD, PE, LEED AP. Dr. Reeves is currently the President and CEO of Paragon. Paragon provides technical environmental support services, Environmental Management System services, Quality Management System services, Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems services, and construction management services, and administrative services to clients in government, industry and academia. Saga Environmental and Engineering, Inc. Obtains NWBOC Certification

The National Women Business Owners Corporation (NWBOC), the nation’s first and the a U.S. Small Business Association (SBA) approved certifier, has certified Saga Environmental and Engineering, Inc. as a business owned and controlled by women, with the federal classifications as EDWOSB and WOSB. Over 700 public and private sector individuals participated in establishing the Standards and Procedures of this rigid certification review. NWBOC aims to provide a credible certification of women business ownership in order to allow women owned businesses more opportunity to compete in their respective markets. The goal of the certification is to make certified Women Business Enterprises more visible as competitive suppliers for large companies with established diversity initiatives.

NWBOC, a national 501(c)3 not-for-profit corporation, was created in response to needs identified by the Procurement Special Interest Group of the National Association of Women Business Owners.

Paragon-Saga Environmental JV, LLC Teams with CH2MHill on MoDOT Joplin West Corridor Project

Paragon-Saga Environmental JV, LLC is proud be on CH2MHill's team in the preparation of the Joplin I-44 Corridor Study for the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT).

Joplin, Missouri is located in southwest Missouri in the four-state region encompassing Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, and Arkansas. For the purposes of the study, the Study Area/Corridor is roughly bounded by the Missouri state line to the west (into Kansas to the first major crossroad), Route 171 to the north, Route 249 to the east, and I-44 to the south. Alternatives are expected to be developed in a corridor west of Main Street, north of I-44, east of the state line and south of Route 171. This corridor will allow placement of alternatives that will accommodate engineering and environmental constraints and allow selection with intent of the least environmentally damaging alternative while maximizing flexibility in engineering for the design phase. Paragon-Saga Environmental JV, LLC is assisting with the Environmental Impact Studies and Hazardous Waste Assessments.

Mr. Barnhill joins Saga as a Senior Environmental Technician, specializing in soil and groundwater field work. With over 25 years of experience in Environmental Engineering and Alternative Fuels, Mr. Barnhill has worked in environmental field services in Wisconsin, New Jersey, and California. He has managed a large fuel terminal at the Port of Milwaukee; been a field project lead for remediation operation systems; coordinated landfill compliance; completed multiple groundwater, storm water, and sediment monitoring projects as lead technician; and managed UST numerous removals.

Saga Environmental and Engineering, Inc.'s Amy Litscher Selected as Member of National Compliance Advisory Panel (NCAP)

At a May 14-15, 2013 Annual 507 Program Training meeting in Chicago, Illinois's U.S EPA Region V offices, Amy Litscher, President of Saga Environmental and Engineering, Inc. (Saga) was selected as an at-large member of the National Compliance Advisory Panel (NCAP).

The Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990 required the creation of Compliance Advisory Panels (CAPs) in all U.S. states and territories as part of a three-tiered national program to help small business comply with Clean Air Act requirements. Thus, the NCAP was created to represent the interests of State CAPs and also to provide a networking and communications tool between the programs and the U.S. EPA Asbestos and Small Business Ombudsman (ASBO). The National CAP is supported by the U.S. EPA ASBO. The purpose of the NCAP is to foster small business success through improved environmental performance. The official responsibilities of the NCAP include:

The NCAP is made up of one representative from each of the U.S. EPA Regions, two at-large members, a representative from U.S. ASBO/SBAP National Steering Committee, and a representative from the U.S. EPA ASBO.

At the end of August 2012, Saga moved the Wisconsin offices from Jefferson to Lake Mills. Amy Litscher, President said, "We are excited to be part of the Lake Mills Main Street landscape, and look forward to serving the local committee along with our current regional, national, and international clients. We invite all to our open house on Thursday, November 30, 2012 from 4:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. to celebrate our move, as well as to celebrate our two-year anniversary." Saga was incorporated in October 2010, when we purchased the assets and book of business of a division of a larger firm that had been in existence since 1989.

Amy J. Litscher President of Lake Mills Rotary Club

As of July 1, 2012, Amy J. Litscher, President of Saga Environmental and Engineering, Inc., began a term as President of the Lake Mills Rotary Club.

Rotary's 1.2 million members believe it starts with a commitment to "Service Above Self". In more than 34,000 clubs worldwide, members volunteer in communities at home and abroad to support education and job training, provide clean water, combat hunger, improve health and sanitation, and eradicate polio. The Lake Mills chapter of Rotary is a proud annual sponsor of local youth scholarships, participates in many local initiatives including building Rotary Park on the south side of town, and recently spear-headed the Lake Mills-Goregaon Cow Project where cows were provided to needing-families in India.

On May 21, 2012, Saga Environmental and Engineering, Inc. (Saga) opened a satellite office in Fordland, Missouri. This office is being lead by new Saga employee Rachael Izdepski.

Ms. Izdepski joins Saga as an Environmental Compliance Consultant, with extensive compliance experience in the areas of wastewater, air, hazardous waste, storm water, spill plans, and due diligence (Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments). Prior to joining Saga, Ms. Izdepski was the Corporate Environmental Manager at a leading international poultry food grower/processor.

Paula A. Richardson Elected 2012 Wisconsin Ground Water Association President

As of January 1, 2012, Paula A. Richardson, Vice President of Saga Environmental and Engineering, Inc., began her second term as President of the Wisconsin Ground Water Association (WGWA). Ms. Richardson previously served as WGWA President in 2009.

Amy J. Litscher Appointed by Gov. Walker to Wisconsin Small Business Environmental Council

On December 30, 2011, Amy J. Litscher, President of Saga Environmental and Engineering, Inc. was appointed by Gov. Scott Walker to the Small Business Environmental Council, and will serve a three-year term.

The Small Business Environmental Council is charged with the responsibilities under Wisconsin Statutes section 560.11, related to the requirements of the Clean Air Act as implemented by DNR's Air Program. The eight members of the council represent the public, owners or owner-representatives from small business, and the DNR. The council reviews and comments on how the DNR disseminates information to small businesses, whether the information provided is understandable, whether new air regulations meet the paperwork reduction act, and any difficulties encountered by small businesses trying to comply with the air regulations.

Litscher, President of Saga Environmental and Engineering, Inc. was awarded gold in the Wisconsin Procurement Institute (WPI)'s Small Business Olympics at the 2011 "Contracting with the Government & Prime Contractors Conference" held at Volk Field. The Small Business Olympics were developed as a tool to provide small business with opportunity and recognition as they grow and develop their marketing skills and capabilities in the government marketplace. The Small Business Olympics are hosted by the Wisconsin Procurement Institute.

Saga Environmental and Engineering, Inc. Obtains DBE Certification

Saga Environmental and Engineering, Inc. (Saga), has received certification as a Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) through the State of Wisconsin Department of Transportation. The designation qualifies Saga to be considered for contracts with corporations and government entities that seek vendor relationships with businesses owned and operated by disadvantaged individuals.

Saga was established in 2010, following the purchase of the assets of the environmental division of an existing engineering firm. Saga's principals have over 70 combined years of environmental consulting experience in the fields of environmental compliance; soil and groundwater contamination investigation and remediation; risk-based assessment; feasibility studies; remedial engineering design, implementation, and monitoring; and permitting and litigation support. Saga Environmental and Engineering, Inc. Purchases RSV Environmental Assets

Saga Environmental and Engineering, Inc. has purchased the environmental assets of RSV Engineering, Inc. Saga is a multi-disciplinary environmental consulting firm, specializing in investigations and remediation of environmental contamination; and industrial environmental permitting, reporting, and compliance.

The company has offices in Jefferson, Wisconsin and Tigard (Portland), Oregon.

"With this purchase, our highly experienced staff remains the same and consequently, our clients can expect the same level of excellent level of service," said Amy Litscher, president of Saga. "With our new status as a women-owned business enterprise, we look forward to seeking more public-sector projects. We also look forward to additional opportunities coming from partnering with large firms as a subcontractor in governmental projects that have associated requirements for disadvantaged business."
